Erling Haaland scored his 45th goal of the season as Manchester City earned an emphatic 3-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final.
The prolific Norwegian added on to a stunning first-half goal from Rodri and a header from Bernardo Silva as City firmly took the lead in their quarter-final tie in the first leg at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday.
Richard Tanner ran the rule on both teams
Ederson
The City goalkeeper had little to do in the first half but made three vital saves from Leroy Sane early in the second period. 7/10
Manuel Akanji
Composed performance, managed well Sane and Coman and well connected with Silva on the right wing. 7/10
John Stones
Returning to his more familiar central defensive role, he often ventured into midfield when City were up front and his header netted Haaland’s goal. 7/10
Ruben Dias
A real rock in the City defense with some important blocks and headers and a goal denied by Sommer after the break. 8/10
Nathan Ake
A revelation this season. Coman played so well that the Frenchman moved down the left wing and forced Sommer to save in the second half. 7/10
Bernard Silva
He justified his inclusion ahead of Riyad Mahrez with his flamboyant runs that stretched Bayern before they doubled up with an improbable header. 9/10
Rodri
Midfield’s solid performance was capped off by his superbly caught goal – a left footed curler into top corner from 20 yards – and he went close to second late in the game. 8/10
Ilkay Gundogan
Busy shift in midfield and he was always a threat with his runs into the box, but this time he let others steal the goal glory. 7/10
Kevin DeBruyne
He drifted across the pitch to drag Bayern out of their form, but had to go off injured in the second half. 7/10
Jack Grealish
He continued his superb recent form with his runs worrying Bayern before robbing Upemecano to set up the second goal. 8/10
Erling Haaland
He missed a good chance in the first half, but made up for it after the break to score his second and third – his 45th of the season. 8/10

Bayern Munich (4-2-3-1)
Yan Sommer
He endured an uneven night: some nervous moments mixed with some good saves, notably from Dias, Alvarez and Rodri to keep the score down in the second half. 7/10
Benjamin Pavard
His work was halted to keep Grealish calm and by the end of it he was looking an exhausted and defeated figure, like his teammates. 5/10
Dayot Upamecano
Possessed by Grealish for City’s second goal to crown an uncomfortable night for the Frenchman. 5/10
Matthis DeLigt
Trial play for the Dutchman and he found it difficult to deal with City’s irresistible strike force. 6/10
Alfonso Davis
Torrid evening given by the agile foot Silva and booked for the gross foul that closed the evening by De Bruyne. 5/10
Joshua Kimmich
Constant whirlwind in Bayern’s midfield but struggled to contain City as they charged forward with such pace and precision. 6/10
Leon Goretzka
Tireless display in midfield, full of runs from area to area, but had to concede second place in City’s midfield. 6/10
Kingsley Coman
The Dutch winger didn’t get much joy from Ake or Akanji as he switched wings to try and find some space. 5/10
Jamal Musiala
He made an important interception in the first minute but struggled and was replaced by Mane after 68 minutes. 5/10
Leroy Sanè
He enjoyed his return to the Etihad and was Bayern’s most dangerous player as he forced Ederson into three fine saves early in the second half. 7/10
Serge Gnabri
Thankless task against Dias and Stones and he was rarely a threat. How much he misses Lewandowski. 5/10
